2022 Summer Finance Interns
For the summer of 2022, we were accompanied by three exceptional interns who participated in our annual internship program. They worked on projects with all our departments while getting a glimpse into the financial services industry. Let’s meet our interns:
Kennedy Thompson: Kennedy is graduating from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, in June of 2023 with a major in Business Administration and a concentration in Finance. In her free time, she usually is outside doing things like hiking, camping, paddle boarding, and spending time with friends and family. She is a very organized planner with the motivation to never procrastinate. She is impassioned by learning new things every day, especially when she can use that knowledge to help her friends and family.
Joshua Burdette: Joshua will graduate from the University of Alabama in December of 2023 with a major in Finance and a minor in Sales. In his spare time, he is found outside surfing, mountain biking, dirt biking, or fishing. He loves to spend time with his family and friends and even serve at his church. He is passionate about his faith and serving in youth ministries while away at school.
Riley Johnson: Riley is graduating from Westmont College as a super-senior in December 2023 with a double major in Chemistry and Business & Economics. He is often surfing or hiking in the outdoors, but when inside, he likes to work on coding or data analysis side projects. Riley is curious and loves going down rabbit holes, but his passion is realizing goals into executable tasks.
Our paid internship focuses on gaining knowledge about the industry by participating in team meetings, collaborating on department projects, and learning about how we operate at Apriem. Kennedy comments, “My initial expectations of the program were to learn about the company and do more mundane office work but get experience in the 8-5 office workday. This program definitely exceeded my expectations as we are going through each department of the company and learning what they do and how it all works together. The entire staff is so willing to teach us and answer any questions. The time they set aside to teach us is very gracious as they have work to do. We have also acquired multiple tools to help us grow as people and gain knowledge about the finance industry.”
Here at Apriem, we emphasize building relationships with our clients, uniquely enabling us to serve over everything else. Josh commented, “the emphasis on relationships is unlike anything I have ever seen in a business. It’s as if you have known each team member forever. They are always willing to answer any questions and help so the clients or us interns can understand all aspects of the markets and portfolios. It is truly something you have to see to believe.”
We asked our interns, “What are some things you will take away from your experience here at Apriem?” Riley answered, “It’s unique to be an intern at Apriem in the post-COVID-19 era because the economy is behaving in ways that have never been seen before. We are learning how the economy is different but related to the market. As interns, we are fortunate to witness years of experience discuss the trends and indicators in the news and then debrief what we observed at lunch.”
Kennedy, Josh, and Riley have made notable efforts to learn and grow over the last few weeks. We are excited to see how their experience at Apriem shapes where they choose to go in the future.
